   Causes

A village at risk of disappearing meets the following characteristics:

  • Its main and constitutive economical activity stopped functioning
  • Railway stations have been closed
  • Surrounding roads remained unpaved, leading to a great geographical isolation
  • No investment has been made to improve the state of the roads
  • Last censuses taken showed a regular decrease in the number of inhabitants
  • The supply of services and basic infrastructure has declined due to the decreasing size of the community
  • There are no public means of transportation that would facilitate the move of its people
  • The state has not been investing in either formal or informal education
  • There are no professional opportunities
  • There is no access to information and opportunities in general
