RESPONDE is a Non Governamental Development and Promotion Organization (DNGO). It was legally founded as Civil Non Profit Association in October 1999.
The initiative was undertaken after its founder, Marcela Benitez, carried out a research on “Disappearing villages and communities in the Argentinean Republic” between 1991 and 1998. This research supported by the CONICET (National Scientific and Technical Research Council) made it possible to identify 430 villages in risk at that moment.
The figure updated by the 2001 National Census shows that the number of those villages rose to 602.
RESPONDE is the answer to disappearing communities’ issues. We indeed make it a priority to put our theoretical key learning into action and trigger a new social and economical dynamic in vulnerable villages.
